Marcel Arnaud

1877-1956

 

Born in Marseille, Studied at the Marseille College of fine Art. Subsequently moved to Paris.

1895-1897 - Two years in Paris working for one of the major theater companies, "Cyrano de Bergerac" on the decoration staff. At that time, met with Alain Besnard and Antoine Bourdelle.

1906-1912 - Returned to Marseille where he founded the movement known as "Le Cénacle" with Bernard Valère and others artists including Edouard Paille and sculptor brothers Verdilhan.

1917 - 1946 - Director of the Fine Arts College at Aix-en-Provence.
Became conservator of the Aix-en-Provence Musée Granet.
Befriended some of the artists in Cézanne's circle like Louise Germain and Joseph Ravaisou.
In 1929 and 1936, organized exhibitions with Cézanne.

1948 - The Louvre purchased 3 of his watercolors.

In his landscapes and still life paintings, it can be considered that no other painter has come close to Cézanne.
