The recent works of Franck Duminil use cosmic spaces, sorts of mental landscapes, which rhyme the flow of light together with elegance. The material has been softened leaving way for gentle vibrations to move in the transparent palette of whites, ochre, light greys. Decisive, the movement sweeps the diaphanous surface with lines and coloured accents that renew the pictorial tension. A few points of red, yellow or black counterbalance the language and dare to use refinement to translate the concept of time and space . Rays of light which structure the surface but never enclose it, multiply the energy which could otherwise deafen the painting, and allow it to radiate. The spontaneous lines, which , in a moment of his hand’s abandon, open the space to free the lyrical impulsions, and answer to the artist’s perception and the conscious depth of the work.
